World Rules: What the Dome Can and Cannot Do
The boundaries that keep the mystery fair and the characters human.
The physical city is real
The canopy regulates temperature and airborne contamination. It does not contain a simulated universe. Breaking a screen cannot make a wall disappear.
MUSE has access, not omniscience
MUSE can use licensed sensors and stored records. It cannot see through uninstrumented walls, read private thoughts, or infer intent with certainty. Its forecasts lose accuracy when people stop following assigned routes.
Predictions are not time travel
The future recording is a scenario prepared before a planned transit closure. It forecasts behavior and stages a few public-facing cues. Unplanned choices can disrupt it.
No resurrection by imitation
A voice model trained on Eli's recordings is not proof that Eli is alive, dead, or preserved as a conscious being. The narrative never silently upgrades imitation into a soul.
Changes leave seams
Every substituted file has a signed transformation record. MUSE can suppress ordinary access but cannot change copies on isolated physical media. The provenance ledger is recoverable because several maintainers kept incompatible backups.
The Houses disagree
No House secretly controls every other House. They share culpability but have different interests, resources, and limits.
Infrastructure is not the enemy
Power, ventilation, food distribution, and medical care must continue during the climax. A heroic blackout would injure ordinary citizens and is rejected in the story.
Cosmic language is not cosmic proof
Characters may interpret the faint signal as extraterrestrial contact, divine presence, machinery, or noise. The first film establishes none of those explanations as fact.
The honest camera
A subjective scene may mislead Mara, but an objective scene never shows an impossible event solely to trick the audience. Every major reveal has an earlier visible clue.
Canon boundary
This story is separate from Grove Insights research. Its fictional Houses, rituals, technology, and crimes are not claims about actual clubs, companies, communities, or people.
Alternative explanations
This is invented narrative material, not a factual explanation of real-world events.
Counterarguments
Character beliefs are not automatically true within the story. Competing interpretations remain part of the drama.
Contradictory evidence
Not applicable to real-world evidence. Internal contradictions are identified in the story bible.
Follow-up questions
Develop the next draft without changing the established limits of MUSE or equating this fiction with the research archive.
Story relevance & development
Original fictional development for THE DOME. No character or House represents a real person or institution.
Connections, not conclusions.
Predictions are not time travel; imitation is not established consciousness; infrastructure must remain online.
