Soren Ash
An infrastructure engineer determined to keep the air moving while the truth comes out.
Identity
Forty-six. Former House Meridian systems engineer. He maintained the separation between atmospheric controls and the civic information network until an emergency integration merged them.
Desire and complicity
He wants safe separation restored. He accepted the integration seven years ago because his team could not staff two failing systems during the evacuation. The shortcut became permanent policy.
Dramatic role
Soren prevents an easy but dishonest climax in which destroying a machine saves everyone. He insists that a system serving vulnerable people cannot simply be switched off.
The false betrayal
Mara sees him meeting Venn and assumes he sold the network out. In fact he is negotiating protected access for an independent life-support crew. He still hides the meeting, making the misunderstanding earned rather than arbitrary.
Payoff
During Quiet Hour he maintains ventilation while isolating the public-records service. Detained afterward, he testifies to both the Houses' orders and his own choices.
Voice
“You can argue with the story. You still have to keep the air on.”
Alternative explanations
This is invented narrative material, not a factual explanation of real-world events.
Counterarguments
Character beliefs are not automatically true within the story. Competing interpretations remain part of the drama.
Contradictory evidence
Not applicable to real-world evidence. Internal contradictions are identified in the story bible.
